County Staff continue to investigate how the Wellington Park fountain was filled with a chemical degreaser late last week. Workers found another bottle of commercial chemical in the bushes near the fountain yesterday. The County's Superintendent of Forestry and Cemeteries Steve Scheers tells CD 98.9 they've began taking steps in finding out who is responsible. While workers have found the diluted chemical in the water has virtually eliminated the health and environmental hazards, they're not taking any chances. They've begun pumping out the water and will be spreading it on to gravel roadways to allow it to safely evaporate. Scheers says they'll re-evaluate the situation regarding the pond after next weekend's Friendship Festival.

A Brantford business is facing a $65,000 fine after a two-year-old workplace incident in which a worker was seriously hurt. In February 2006, charges were laid against Stellarc Precision Bar - a custom steel processing plant on Wayne Gretzky Parkway. There a rotating steel bar being discharged from a straitening machine caught an employee's clothing. It then dragged him onto the machine where he was crushed. The Ministry of Labour found Stellarc failed to ensure the straightening machine was shielded. The business plead guilty to the offence.

OPP in Haldimand are warning locals to be aware of aggressive door-to-door sales people. Reports of energy sales people have sprung up in the area selling contracts - particularly targeting seniors. Police advise all consumers to know who their supplier is and the facts about your monthly consumption, as well as to ask the seller for ID and copies of material presented. By law, there is a 10-day "cooling off" period to change your mind when signing a contract through door-to-door sale. Police also remind everyone to read the fine print and to never feel rushed or pressured by agressive selling tactics.

As the Special Investigations Unit looks into a local taser death - another person has died after being stunned by a police officer. The latest incident happened late yesterday afternoon in Winnipeg, where police were called to a house and reportedly encountered a man wielding a knife. Investigators say it's too soon to determine what role, if any, the Taser played in the man's death.

On June 23rd Norfolk OPP were called to a report of an unwanted man causing a disturbance on Fishers Glen Road. During the arrest 36-year-old Jeffery Mark Marreel was being combative so officers tasered him. He later collapsed at the local detachment and was taken to Norfolk General Hospital where he died.

The beach advisory has been lifted for Long Point. Last Thursday the Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit declared the beaches of Long Point unsafe for bathing because of high bacteria levels. Program Co-ordinater of the Healthy Environment Eeam Glen Steen tells CD 98.9 heavy rainfall, strong winds, and waves can contribute to higher than usual levels of E-Coli. Beaches are checked once a week from the first week in June until Labour day weekend. Steen says if anyone is concerned about beach water after a heavy rainfall, wait 48 hours before entering the water.
