A report tabled at Norfolk General Hospitals Board meeting yesterday is calling for the removal of a Paging tower located on top of the facility. Several adverse health effects of electromagnetic fields were presented, notably studies that have found increased risks of cancer associated with exposure to these fields. The report was given by PHD student in Applied Health Sciences at Western University, Anca Gaston. Gaston says current guidelines set out by Health Canada are outdated and new studies show increased prevalence of cancer and other ailments in those who are exposed to electromagnetic radiation. For now - the tower stays, but the hospital board has agreed to investigate the matter further. It is worth noting the paging tower is in compliance with Health Canada's Safety Code 6.
